What is cardiology?

Cardiology is the medical specialty that diagnoses and treats diseases of the heart and blood vessels. In Medellín you can combine a consultation with the tests your cardiologist orders, such as an echocardiogram, a Holter or 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, usually within one to three days. More complex cardiology is coordinated by private referral after an assessment.

Cardiology procedures

• Cardiology consultation with ECG: Assessment with a cardiologist, including a resting electrocardiogram, to review symptoms, risk factors and which tests you need.
• Echocardiogram: Ultrasound of the heart that shows its structure, its valves and how well it pumps.
• 24-hour Holter monitor: A small portable recorder that tracks your heart rhythm for 24 hours while you go about your day.
• 24-hour blood pressure monitoring (ABPM): A portable cuff that measures your blood pressure at set intervals for 24 hours, day and night.
• Sleep study (polysomnography): An overnight study of breathing, oxygen and heart rhythm during sleep to detect sleep apnea, which affects heart health.
• Electrocardiogram (ECG): A quick, painless recording of the electrical activity of your heart at rest.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do I need in Medellín?

One day for a consultation, electrocardiogram or echocardiogram, and two days for a Holter, blood pressure monitoring or a sleep study. A full check-up usually fits in two to three days.

Will I have my results before I fly home?

We schedule your tests so your cardiologist can review the results with you before you leave whenever possible. If a report takes longer, it is sent to you and reviewed by video call.

Can I add a cardiovascular check-up to another procedure?

Yes. It can be scheduled around an aesthetic procedure or an executive check-up during the same stay.
